Lawrence Lessig vs. Stephen Colbert

Really interesting argument about copyright from a recent show. It's funny as hell.

I see aspects of both sides of the battle. I'm not sure that one side or the other is absolute, the future is most likely a blend of something in the middle. And it will be based on the type of the content and the content producer.

Found this via a photography business blog that is hellbent on copyright protections. Take a read of John Harrington's freak out if you like.

  1. wow, lawrence lessig looked none too happy during parts of that interview. i have to say, i see colbert's point of view; congress probably needs to concentrate on some 'bigger' issues at the moment. still, lessig's point is worth consideration.

  2. The think the "battle" rhetoric is a bit off. CC is an alternative to all rights reserved. Lessig is not against copyright, just the regime of control the particular system we have now imposes.

  3. I only meant that they were going at each other pretty hard over the issue of remixing the show, not necessarily the issue of copyright versus CC.

Plus, the show being in the vein of parody creates noise in what the true discussion is over CC and copyright.
